The Nephrology Association was formed because of the effort of Senior Nephrologists of Tamil Nadu. The sole aim of the formation of the association was to promote the Science of Nephrology especially towards the public education, increase awareness of the diseases affecting the Kidneys, and ways and means of preventing such ailments. The initial steps were taken in 6th & 7th August 2013, by a group of Nephrologists who were attending a Nephrology educational program at Madurai. An adhoc committees was formed with the following members for the purpose of organising the association and registering it, to promote Health education, Preventive steps towards reducing the incidence of Kidney ailments arising from Diabetes, Hypertensives, Urinary stone disease indiscriminate use of drugs, Native therapies and neglecting the early signs of disease.

The Registration was done on 12.06.2013. The 1st Annual conference and Continuing Medical Education program was held in Chennai on 22nd & 23rd June 2013, 32 delegates from all over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry attended the meeting.
